In Brief
The Finnish-Japanese Society of Oulu a.k.a OSJY is a non-profit association which aims to introduce Japanese culture to Finnish people in Oulu and Northern Finland. We have about 70 active members who all share a common interest in Japanese culture.
What do we do?
OSJY was founded in 1985. During the years we have organized various events related to Japanese culture. Lately one of our largest events has been the Japanese speech event that not only offers students a chance to improve their public speech and Japanese language skills, but also contributes to informing people about Japanese culture by means of different kinds of performances and exhibitions.
We organize Japan-themed events for our members almost every month. We have had for example a Japanese tea ceremony and a cooking event where we made okonomiyaki together. Annually recurring events consist of the hanami picnic in June and the Christmas party in December. When organizing our events our goal is to collaborate with Japanese visiting or living in Oulu and want to give them a chance to experience Finnish culture and traditions with native Finnish people as well.
Are you interested in becoming a member?
Everyone interested in Japan is warmly welcome to our society. The easiest way to become a member is to fill the membership form found at our Finnish website or contact us with the contact form.
